Poetic Stimulus, spoonsored by: SayItinPoetry.com

This project has been no small effort. It involved time, dedication, and focus from all who participated to make this happen. Utilizing the gift of art to promote positive outcomes is something we need to see more of in our language and music arts. We hope that what we have completed will not only inspire someone but compel others to continuously seek out ways to promote progression through art.

This project was initiated with team efforts through the on-line network, SayItinPoetry.com. The spirit of that network is to promote the arts of poetry, spoken word, and music. We asked for volunteers to participate in this effort in November 2008. The willing participation was amazing.

Everyone who took part in this project is a superstar. In January '08, Taalam Acey inspired each participant by sharing his perspective on the art of Spoken Word and what's necessary to see it grow to its full potential. Each of us is grateful for an opportunity to play a part in spreading awareness for the art of spoken word.

Special thanks to Breeze and Max Parthas, two of the most well-known spoken word artists in the nation. Undying gratitude to Corrie Vandenes, one of the most outstanding Neo-Soul vocalists joined us to lend her gift of singing to this project. DA WONDA TWINZ represent high-quality in music production and helped tremendously by helping to spread the word and produce video clips for promotional purposes. Tshombe Harris, a phenomenal producer, leader, and poet provided faithful coaching and guidance to help us to see this project through completion.

To all of the artists, this has been a production that I will always remember as having been one of the most heart-felt collaborations I have ever endeavored. THANK YOU ALL! - A.R.

Queen Unique
Queen Unique
web site: www.queenunique.com

K.L. Shanks a.k.a. Queen Unique was raised in a small city where creativity such as the arts and poetry was taboo. It was not “hip” to be artsy and different in Fort Myers, Florida. While the children in her neighborhood wanted to play house, sports and to dance…Katrina wanted to play school, read and write. She was obviously cut from a different fabric and this soon made her an outcast to the other kids and her social involvement decreased. Eventually influenced by the majority, Katrina conformed to her friends and neighbors beliefs and suppressed this divine gift that was granted to her by the Creator.

After experiencing many ups and downs in life, Katrina secretly continued to use poetry as her private outlet and as a result, her talent continued to flourish. In late 2005 (as corny as it may sound) Katrina had hit rock bottom and resorted to a simple prayer over a fortune cookie. Her faith in God and herself had been tarnished to a point where she believed in only what was tangible. She asked the Lord to make the paper in that cookie deliver any message that she may not be hearing from Him because her senses had been impaired by worldly things. When she opened that cookie, it read, “Go Confidently in the Direction of Your Dreams”. This simple epiphany helped her to emerge from her shell, restore her faith into the “Invisible to do the Impossible” and finally release her passion to the masses. Public reaction has since agreed and Queen Unique has published her first book of poetry and thoughts entitled “A Mile in My Heels: A Personal Compilation of Wordplay”, started her own vocal and visual arts venue called Acoustic Affairs with business partner Mr. 239, written articles for magazines, read at poetry venues and is currently recording her debut spoken word C.D. trilogy (three parts: Spirit, Heart and Body) “Queen Speaks”.

Katrina has been writing since the tender age of nine and her key weapons are the power of her voice, her unabashed honesty, confidence, style and uninhibited viewpoint.Ms. Shanks is a member of the National Black Writers and Artist Association, Black on Black Rhyme, The Black Poetry Café and is the hostess of "Queen Speaks Radio" which is a hot new and uncut LIVE online talk show broadcasting on BlogTalk Radio on Mondays and Fridays at 10pm EST. She also plays a lead role in many other companies such as her fashion design, personal shopping and stylist company, “Her Highness Images”, her freelance writing company “Queen’s Pen” and is also in the process of implementing a women’s book club “Erudite Aphrodite”. She is working towards her degree in Graphic Design and has many other goals and plans for the near future including re-starting "Acoustic Affairs" which is currently on a short hiatus. Queen Unique is currently working on the second book, "The Tracks of Life: Inside-Out", a fiction novel, "Chastity Belt" and a children's motivational short-story series, "This Little Light of Mine" with illustrations by her daughters. Katrina is a self motivated woman focused on her goals and manages to do these things all while being a very involved mother. Queen was a featured speaker at The Bridge Youth Center, has written articles for magazines, done various radio interviews and was recognized as TimBookTu.com's writer of the month for March 2008. Queen Unique has been highlighted in many capacities including but not limited to Neo-Lystically Speaking's Wassup Wednesday newsletter and SOMSistahs "In the Spotlight" blog feature.

Personally: I am just someone with a passion for Christ and compassion for men. I don’t sing the Gospel, I live the Gospel for it has shown me Life, Love, Healing, Restoration, Hope and Salvation for me and all those around me. My songs are a personal testimony of my struggles before Christ but now I’m born again, I hope to one day record an album with my after Christ testimony. Until then I sing my older songs and shine His light on them to reveal the change in my Life.

Musically: IM KNOWN AS A VIBE CREATOR. Even with your eyes closed you’ll see what I’m talking about. Realness is my strength; it’s pure & never fades as long as I am who i was made to be, ME. My lyrics are respectful but ruff, intimate but not sugar coated. Issues we deal with everyday but remain taboo. A voice for your thoughts. A voice in the wilderness. The message is clear.

If I live, if I breathe, if I have love and life, it’s all for the Glory of You - If I wake in the morn and feel the mist of the dawn, surely it is owed to Your love and grace - If I laugh, if I smile, if I cry, I will pray - For only through Your mercy will I survive the rains - As the storms come and the winds blow, I turn to you and the mountains shall move by my command, for I submit, I am Your child. - Your perfect will has brought me thus far and as I stare at the mirror looking through and into the windows of my life, I am You. - I am as brilliant as the sun, as magnificent as the Earth, as original as the waters, as ancient as Your throne. I am You,

I am Aalysis.

The mountains shall move and the Earth will quake as I rise, for I am You. - As I cast away evil and indecent morals calm settles around me. I rest on Your bosom for I am Your child. - When the sun dies into the west, I gain my rest for I have found refuge in the secret place of the Most High, no evil shall come nigh my dwelling, for I live in the Epitome of love, I am the epitome of life - My presence on Earth is everlasting, for I am created of the Earth, to rule the Earth, when my reign ends I shall return to, and become one with the Earth - I am the original woman

I am the queen of the Earth

My essence reaches forth through the universe - I am brilliant, vibrant, vivacious, tenacious, audacious, magnificent, exuberant, extravagant, flirtatious, veracious, and I am Aalysis

I grew up listening to all genres of music. I started playing the organ at age 15. I later fell in love with the piano after hearing Donald Brown play. He interduced me to jazz and I became a big fan of jazz organist Jimmy Smith. I began writing my own music in 2000. I called it R&B, but the people who bought my music called it jazz and my son call it "Hip Jazz". And 8 years later I'm playing "Hip Jazz" so check me out.

Music From Heaven

Music From Heaven
web site: Ourstage.com
Growing up, born and raised on the East side of Harlem as a child, I always loved listening to music. You can't tell me that I wasn't born with it in my veins. I remember when my mother brought me my first record player and always having the latest music spinning on it. I couldn't go a day without my music and still can't. From old school like Barry White, (my moms favorite), The Ojays and Spinners. To favorites like Mary J. Blige, Monica, Mariah Carey, Keith Sweat, Usher. Favorite rappers like Diddy, Mase, Biggie, Jay-Z to name a few. I grew up hanging out around some music legends like Grand Master Flash, Afrika-Banbata. If I wasn't at the latest jams, I was in a studio somewhere listening to my friend producers to groups like the Crash Crew (Lincoln Projects) puttin it down. I just had to be around music. I always had a good ear for a good beat, hot lyrics and let's not forget some strong bass. I not only have to listen to music, I have to feel it as well. I usually drown everything out around me and zone out, with a Do Not Disturb Sound written across my face. I was always curious about what it would be like to make my own music some day. I would always say "That beat is hot!" and swear I could make one better (laughing). Now thanks to God first for giving me the anointed gift of music, Mr. Kas (This man is an angel) & Akeema Digital Recordings for teaching me everything I know, I have the opportunity to do so. Also a special thanks to my angel, KeChez, A God Sent, "The World's Greatest Life Coach" and best friend. He helped to teach me how to "Reach For The Stars" and "Give It To the Universe". He also taught me the Keys to Success and how to manifest my dreams. Through all my many blessings and surrounding light, I can truly say that this is just the beginning and I plan on taking it to the top. "The sky is neva the limit, when there are footprints on the moon!" God Bless and Believe in You and Your Dreams! Watch for my website which will be coming soon to an Internet near you featuring all of my unreleased beats.
